Divya Shah is the epitome of high energy and positivity. One needs to take a tip from her  as to how to pack  a variety of activities in a day  and still stay cool and composed. Divyaji, as she is fondly addressed by all, is basically from Kutch in Gujarat. She graduated in home science from J.D.Birla college, Calcutta, after which , she enrolled for a six months diploma course  at Saraswathi Niketan, where she learnt other art forms  not included in the home science course.

After marriage, she moved down south to Bangalore, Goa and then to Chennai, where she has been residing for the past fourteen years. In all these cities, she has been conducting classes in ceramic painting, pot painting, foil embossing, cookery batik, tie  and dye, beauty care, handicrafts, chocolate making, glass painting, saw dust painting , to name a few of her creative expertise. Her glass paintings and saw dust paintings adorn many a living room and conference halls over the length and breadth of Chennai.

Divyaji takes classes for college girls and housewives alike, teaching them the nuances  and intricacies of stained glass, minakiri, mural paintings, and a lot more. Women who had previously not dared to even think of taking up an entrepreneurial venture, have been highly motivated to start out on their own, right from the confines of their home, with the able guidance and tutelage of this  amazing lady. One such student of Divyaji’s has started  painting classes from home at Bangalore and sells her paintings in lakhs,  and she owes her success to Divya shah.

Vacations and weekends are busy days for her, with batches of girls thronging to learn glass painting and other art works. On week days, she conducts cooking classes  on 18 varieties  of chocolates,  five varieties of cakes,  Punjabi, Burmese, Spanish , gujarati and Chinese cuisine. She is so very well known all over Chennai and suburbs and it is to her credit that she has been allotted free space in Times of India’s Thursday classifieds section to advertise her classes.

Into her late fifties, her zest and quest for knowledge remain unabated. She has completed a beauticians course from Gujarat, learnt advanced technics of tye and dye while at Banglore, terracotta ware and ceramic painting from an artist at Besant  Nagar, Chennai.  Every three months, she conducts exhibitions with a difference, they are all theme exhibitions  based on different festivals celebrated during those particular months. These are a delight to frequent, with rare surprises galore in store for the visitors to her exhibitions.

Currently, she has been invited to adorn the post of National judge for Nestle cookery contests.   She is also a member of the Nestle Family Club. For all schools and colleges in the city of Chennai, Divya  Shah is the much sought after judge for all cookery , art and chocolate making competitions . Privileged clubs like Cosmopolitan club, and clubs of all associations invite her to be on their judging panel.  For those colleges which provide home science courses, Divyaji is invited to give demonstrations on various cuisine. She is the vice president of Kuchi Jain Samaj, mahila vibhag and  has the rare honour of  having chaired the secretary ship of the same for fourteen long years in succession.

Recently, she has opened up a boutique by the name Garvi Gujarat, which literally means Pride of Gujarat. Here, she sells only ethnic wear. Saris, salwars, dress materials, bed sheets,  all of them have been personally selected and hand picked by her from Gujarat, her home state.

“Bite, bite mein magic’ smiles Divyaji cheerfully, as she displays her exclusive range of chocolates- lipsmacking  delicious Chocomagic . It ranges from dry fruits specialities,   Melting moments, Wafer chocolates, swiss chocolates, and a wide variety of assorted ones.

Divya Shah cuts across barriers of South and North to reach out to all and sundryWe wish her “din din mein  magic” and a life full of joie de vivre.
